About civil litigation
The most common type of civil litigation matters relate to personal injury claims of which there are thousands and a huge variety of personal injury claim lawyers, claims companies and such like. Civil disputes can also involve company and business matters such as shareholder disputes and breach of contract claims, through to employment law claims, disputes over leases, party wall disputes and neighbour disputes over boundaries, probate and will related disputes and the list goes on an on. Civil litigation disputes involve significant risk and and very tactical. It is far from unheard of for a claimant to win a case on legal grounds, be awarded damages but either not to be awarded costs at court or even to be ordered to pay the opponent’s costs which can be more than the damages. It is vital to take good advice and also to “separate the people from the problem” which is another reason to get good solicitors at the outset, since these types of dispute can become very personal and once a case has started and money has already been spent, often there are difficulties because neither side want to “lose face” or accept a compromise which may be far from ideal for both. In short, there are rarely any outright winners in any kind of civil litigation case except perhap0s personal injury.
